FROM THE EAST
*********************

Brethren a & Friends:

Well, surprising as it might seem, I have survived this first month as your Worshipful Master and the Grand Lodge Session held in Springfield last month. It was not as difficult as I thought it might be thanks to your support.

It is with great pride to have the privilege and honor of informing you that one of our King Oscarites, “Moshen - in motion Modaressi” (as our correspondent calls him) was the recipient of the "The Lifetime Masonic Service Award,"the first in Illinois Masonic history! Congratulations Moshen,a well deserved recognition! Another example of the outstanding quality of our membership! We have an active year planned: it can only be successful with your help. That requires your attendance. See you in lodge?

Fraternally,
Dan Auro
Worshipful Master

HOSPITAL WINDOW
*************************

A great read, takes about a minute, 60 seconds you will ALWAYS remember, GUARANTEED!

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One could sit up in his bed for one hour each afternoon. His bed was next to the room’s only window. The other man had to lie flat on his back. They spoke of many things they had in common, families, wives, jobs, military service, vacations etc.

Every afternoon when the man next to the window was allowed to sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate the things he could see outside the window. The other man began to live for those periods they enlivened his existence. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake, swans on the water, children played. Young lovers walked arm in arm. Flowers of every color and a fine view of the city’s skyline could be seen in the distance. The man flat in bed would close his eyes and imagine the scene.

Days and weeks passed. One morning the day nurse arrived to find the lifeless body of the man in the bed by the window. Soon thereafter, the other man asked if he could be switched to the bed by the window. The nurse moved him, and after making sure he was comfortable she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up to take a look outside. It faced a blank wall. Upon the nurse’s return he asked what could have compelled his deceased roommate to describe such wonderful things outside.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and couldn’t even see the wall. She replied, ”Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.”

EPILOGUE: There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.

A wonderful story sent to me in aan e-mail!

GOOD KARMA
******************
Following is what the Dalai Lama has to say for 2005. It is for ALL regardless of religious belief.

1. Consider great love and achievements must involve great risk.
2. When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
3. Follow the three R’s;
a. Respect for self,
b. Respect for other’s, and
c. Responsibility for all your actions.
4. Remember, not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful
stroke of luck.
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
6. Don’t let a minor dispute injure a great relationship.
7. When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps
to correct it.
8. Spend some time alone every day.
9. Open arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.
10. Remember silence is often the best answer.
11. Live a good, honorable life. When you get older you can
relive and enjoy it a second time..
12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.
14. Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality
15. Be gentle with the earth.
16. Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before
17. Remember the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
18. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

THEODORE ROOSEVELT – FREEMASONRY
******************************************************
Quoted from the Summer 2003 The Nebraska Mason

In one of his last interviews Brother Roosevelt is quoted in the July 1919, McClure’s Magazine as saying “I violate no secret when I say that one of the greatest values in Masonry is that it affords an opportunity for men in all walks of life to meet on common ground, where all men are equal and have one common interest. For example, when I was president, the Master was Worshipful Brother Doughty, gardener on the estate of one of my neighbors, and a most excellent public-spirited citizen with whom I liked to maintain contact. Clearly I could not call upon him when I came home. It would have embarrassed him. Neither could he, without embarrassment, call on me. In the lodge, it was different. He was over me. though I was President, and it was good for him and good for me.

“I go to the lodge, and even the folks who do not belong to or believe in the order rather like I that I should go. They seem to feel its part of the eternal fitness of things. Whenever I return from one of my journeys, I always go there to tell of the lodges I have visited, in Nairobi in Africa, Trinidad, or the quaint little lodge I found away up on the Ascension River. They sort of feel I am their representative to these lodges. and they like it. There is a real community of interest.”

Very interesting an excellent example of TRUE FREEMASINRY in action.

KARNAK COURT # !7 LADIES ORIENTAL SHRINE of NORTH AMERICA
***************************************************************************************

Ladies: Your Noble is helping the World’s Greatest Philanthropy. Why not you? The ladies Oriental Shrine of North America is a fun group open to Ladies related by birth, marriage, or adoption to a Shriner or master Mason. As a group they raise about 1.6 million annually for the hospitals and they donate 365,400 personal hours of support. Our job is to support their Nobles.

KKARNAK COURT meets once a month at Westcheter MasonicTemple. They sew twice a month at the Chicago Unit of the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

KARNAK PATROL is not your every day drill team. Their “fun” drills make it easy for every one to perform and still delight an audience
of both children and adults.

KARNAK DRUM CORPS delights audiences with snappy march music and is truly a crowd pleaser when they perform.

KARNAK KOURT JESTERS is an improvisational group that performs fun skits and organizes interesting activities for children and adults.

We are hoping to add more units. Why not think about joining the “WHITE FEZ GROUP?”

REALLY, NOT JUST THINK ABOUT T – DO IT! ASK FOR A PETITION OR CALL OUR RECORDER, LADY ADRIENNE JOHNSON - PHONE 1-847-966-2471.

See Adrienne, I keep my promises and glad to do so, GOD BLESS
THE WHITE FEZES!

MASONIC ODDITIES
**************************
In an unbroken line from 1753 to 1973, the Kings of Sweden have been Freemasons.

Laurence Dermott, the writer of Ahiman Rezon, the Constitution of the Ancients Grand Lodge was initiated at the age of 20 in 1740 into lodge # 26 (IC) in Dublin, Ireland. In 1752 he applied for and became the Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of the Ancients. Ahiman Rezon is believed by Masonic writers to mean “Faithful Brother.”

In 1765, no member of Baniff Lodge in Scotland who was not an “operative mason” could hold office or become Master.

Queen Victoria of England was a warm admirer of freemasonry and a patron of Masonic charities. Her father, uncles and her son were members of the Craft.

SICKNESS & DISTRESS

Got an e-mail message from brother Donald Weinberg. He says he is “trying to it together (if possible) “and one of these days we can get together again to remember the good old days, when laughing was the main topic of joy. Thinking of all the ‘boys,’ so until the motor is working on all cylinders - hang loose. Cheers-G Pa Don.”

Don didn’t attend King Oscar often but was fairly regular at the Scottish Rite. He lived in the Wheeling area and was a pharmacist. His e-mail address is <gabbbie1@sbcglobal.net>. Am sure Don would enjoy receiving messages. Sounds as if the “ticker” isn’t “hitting the bulls eye every second?” Don God bless, our prayers are with you. LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYERS!

Sal De Cola has had additional surgery, is home and is reported to be progressing, Sal. I apologize for not including your status in last month’s column. I was taught when pulling a “boo boo” admit it PDQ. I hope this is PDQING, soon enough? God bless!

Chester Smith, Craig Stewart and Gilberto Balbin are returning to their “old selves!” Phil Huske is back conducting, with gusto, the “King Oscar Chorale!”

CLOSING
************
As I sit here this gloomy damp October Wednesday morning trying to write something interestingly appropriate and hopefully meaningful I am reminded of eons ago, when I was a lad (if I was ever a lad???), hearing the “oldsters” say “time sure flies.” Thought, at the time, they were “off their rockers.” Know now they were “on their rockers” in more ways than “actually rocking in that “old rockin chair’s got me” (from Hoagie’s lyric in that GOOD OLD tune, done so well by the Mills brothers – REMEMBER?)

As we advance chronologically we may not get any smarter but guarantee all - we do become WISER!

Enjoy, relax, take it easy, always do tomorrow what you intended to do today. It will wait for you. Before we recover from the Thanksgiving turkey. that foul fowl will be staring us in the face again – Christmas Day.

We are having prime rib and honey baked ham for our Christmas dinner. Eat your hearts out! God bless. Until next time.
Fraternally
Whispering George C. F.
